MagnetDocs: a document generation platform for CA and compliance firms

Summary

MagnetDocs is a document generation platform for CA, CS and compliance firms in India. Its founder, CA. Vinod Pahilwani, saw firms making every engagement letter, board resolution and agreement by copying last year's Word file and changing names by hand: slow, and one missed field away from a wrong PAN in a signed letter.

MagnetDocs needed a product firms could use and pay for: templates written once, one form per client that fills every document in a set, a way for clients to fill in their own details, and a marketplace where firms share or sell their templates.

What we did

Package Studio

• A package is a set of templates and one shared form
• Templates written in a rich-text editor, with form fields dropped into the text
• A form builder with text, long text, date, dropdown and checkbox fields; draft until you publish

Jobs and Word output

• Pick a package, fill the form once, and get every template as a Word file, zipped for download
• One credit per document generated; every job with its status

Clients and the client portal

• A client database for the firm
• Client logins: assign a job to a client and they fill in their own details; clients see only their own jobs
• Team roles (owner, admin, member, client) and email invites

Marketplace and credits

• Publish a package to your own firm or to the marketplace, free or priced in credits
• Buyers install packages into their library; sellers earn credits and add bank details for payouts
• Credits bought with Razorpay, confirmed by a signed webhook

Platform

• Serverless on AWS: Lambda, API Gateway, PostgreSQL, S3, SES and Secrets Manager, defined as code with AWS SAM and deployed by GitLab CI
